7NBC.gifWe're bringing beachfront beauty to a Bay State home when our design team incorporates a family's love of the Cape into the style for their living room. But will they love the new look?

This living room in Lynnfield is livable, but the homeowners think they can do better.

Eric Sidmore, homeowner
"It's got a, kind of a cold blue color that we thought we would like at first and it ended up being very difficult to match and uncomfortable."

Debra Sidmore, homeowner
"And I think the room really lacks storage space and shelving to put out some of the things we want to display."

And what the family wants to display is their love of the Cape and the Islands.

They've been working closely with our designer Sharon McCormick. They all agree this rug stays, so they work from the floor up.

First up is red paint with a special touch.

Sharon McCormick, Sharon McCormick Design, LLC
"We went with the faux finish, which is a frontage finish of glaze on paint, to warm it up."

This room is long and narrow. Before...

Sharon McCormick, Sharon McCormick Design, LLC
"There was a sofa here and, I think, a love seat way down there and a chair over here, so you pretty much had to yell to talk to each other."

But Sharon has a solution to this space problem.

"By doing the built-ins on one side and the bench on the other side, it makes the room feel more cohesive and compact."

Let's accessorize! This is where the nautical theme comes to life.

Jan Chavez's custom-made pillows anchor new furniture to the color scheme.

Jan Chavez, Jan's Drapery Workroom
"All the pillows have zippers in them and there is a pillow form insert that goes into it."

Lighthouse lights set the mood, candles in the fireplace give the same glow without the mess and dramatic drapes look luxurious.

Special artwork from a painter in Chatham is hung to balance the room. Then boats of all shapes, sizes and colors complete the look.

I think it's time for us to set sail.

Eric Sidmore, homeowner
"Oh nice. Oh my gosh. Wow, look at those beautiful curtains."

Debra Sidmore, homeowner
"This isn't even our house."

Rachel Sidmore
"It looks great."

As you can see, this family is already enjoying this new space that brings the seaside inside. The update cost about $16,000. That includes all the custom made furniture, the built-ins and new recessed lighting.
